As somebody else reported on another site, the cleaning staff does have the annoying habit of knocking on the door early in the morning, even when the "do not disturb" sign is up, but having tried to talk with some of the staff about this, I found that there was a considerable language barrier. This is a part of their job that the staff needs to do better, but they’re not failing to do it out of arrogance. I strongly suspect that they just can’t read the signs and let’s face it, this is far from being the only business in the United States to have that problem.
The rooms are very large, very clean and very comfortable - getting back to my own apartment in Chicago was a considerable step downward in that area. The location couldn’t be better - Royal, about a block from Canal in the French Quarter. You may have seen the photo of the exterior of the building on (ahem!) another review site; the place actually looks better than that picture, and while the lobby has obviously (and regrettably) been modernized since the hotel went up, at least it’s a very nice looking modernization.
Somebody on that search engine run location said something about "paper thin walls" that allowed one to hear everything happening next door. That wasn’t my experience at all, and my sense of hearing is unusually good. A faint amount of noise found its way up from the street, which is to be expected near the heart of what, at the time of our visit, was a city of about half of a million people. I can’t say much about any ballrooms in the building, because I used a hotel for what I would think most people would use a hotel for during a trip - as a place to sleep before going out and exploring during the day. But I can report that the other guests seemed to be much pleased with … basically everything.
ShouldI have the funds or opportunity to travel again, I would definitely stay here again.
